Camp Director
Matt Simons
Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach
University of Puget Sound
Matthew Simons has served as the head coach of the University of Puget Sound men’s and women’s tennis teams since 2018. Under his guidance, the program has seen remarkable transformation, with multiple players earning All-Northwest Conference honors, reflecting the high level of talent and competitiveness fostered within the team.
Simons’ coaching journey is rooted in a strong foundation of personal success. Individually, he made his mark by reaching the second round in both singles and doubles at the NAIA National Championships.
A strong advocate for mental toughness, Simons emphasizes the importance of mental performance in his coaching philosophy. He authored several books, including “The Mentally Tough Tennis Player” and “The Field Guide for Balance in a World of Chaos” which provide valuable insights and strategies for athletes striving to improve their performance by creating customized personal mental toughness plans.

Camp Director
Bruno Jaeger
Head Women’s Tennis Coach
The College of the Desert
Bruno Jaeger has been a full-time teaching professional in Palo Alto, CA, since 2006. In 1979, he was the youngest tennis professional in United States Professional Tennis Registry (USPTR) history to receive the organization’s highest certification (Professional 1). His playing career includes a USTA 6.0 (Open Class) ranking, earned competing in USTA-sanctioned tournaments through the 1980s and 1990s. He played #2 singles and #1 doubles for California State University, Sacramento, and #5 singles and #1 doubles for Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill. At Diablo Valley, Coach Jaeger was team captain and most valuable player, posting a team-leading 18-2 singles and 17-3 doubles record in his final year.
Coach Jaeger’s teaching experience spans the Bay Area as well as coaching positions in Massachusetts, Washington State, and the Caribbean.
Coach Jaeger’s teaching philosophy centers on training players properly, building strokes limited only by a student’s passion for the game and their practice schedule. Groundstrokes should pressure opponents from behind the baseline, shifting to an attack strategy on the transition into midcourt, and finishing points with a controlled volley. Once competition season begins, match play strategy and the mental side of the game become the primary focus.
Please welcome Coach Jaeger to College of the Desert and our women’s and men’s tennis teams. He resides in the Coachella Valley with his wife of 43 years, Dorothy Jaeger.
Palm Desert Tennis Campus
College of the Desert features a dedicated eight-court outdoor hard-court tennis facility on its Palm Desert campus. The courts have been recently resurfaced to withstand the area’s intense desert heat, UV exposure, wind and sand, providing a clean, high-quality setting for instruction and competitive play. The facility serves COD’s men’s and women’s tennis programs and is well suited for clinics, camps and tournament-style programming.

Camp Reviews
Excellent coach and great facility
My son had a great time and felt like he improved a lot over the week. He’s been in other camps that felt like babysitting, where this one helped with skill and lots of practice.
Fun, lots of conditioning and match play. Small groups allowed for skill based groups.
The coach was great!
