Introducing Ohio's newest Wilson Tennis Camp location at the beautiful Ashland University! Directed by Ashland's new Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach, and longstanding Wilson Tennis Camps director, Marc Wurtzman, we are excited to offer this overnight camp with a commuter option to the Ashland, OH area.

Join us this summer for a week of expert tennis training, whether your child is a beginner or looking to sharpen their skills for tournament season. Each camper is given small group and individual attention and feedback, with a focus on skills according to their needs and abilities. Beginners will receive instruction on fundamentals and refining game play techniques, while more advanced players will work on strategy, point construction, and match play. We group campers and tailor our instruction to fit each player's level and ability.

Inclement Weather:

  • In the case of inclement weather, Ashland University has indoor courts on campus and additional indoor facility space. As the camp runs better outdoors, we will shift our daily schedule in anticipation of rain to maximize our court time outdoors. Camp will proceed rain or shine each day.

Grouping:

  • Kids are grouped by skill, age and experience. Often these groups change through the course of the camp.

Swimming:

  • This camp does not offer swimming as an option.

Safety:

  • Camp safety is our number one priority. All efforts are made to ensure that the kids are safe throughout the camp. Safety will be prioritized over tennis and activities when necessary. The camp, Wilson Sporting Goods, Premier Sports camps and its coaches and universities are not responsible for personal items brought to camp.

Pertinent Information

Camp Dorm:

  • Clayton Hall, located on King Road
  • Each room sleeps two campers, and includes a private shower in each room.
  • Dorms are Air Conditioned

Roommate Requests:

  • If you are attending the camp as an overnight camper, you can request a roommate at the time of enrollment. Should you need to change this request, please email the office. We can usually meet your request for one roommate; however, please keep in mind that many parents have conflicting requests (Player A requests Player B and Player B requests Player C). We will do our very best to sort out these issues ahead of camp; however, if there is a mistake or change that needs to be made at camp check-in, please let us know, and we will do everything in our power to make that change.

Meals:

  • Overnight: All meals provided Sunday dinner through Thursday breakfast
  • Commuter: Sunday Dinner, Lunch & Dinner Monday-Wednesday

Marc Wurtzman

HEAD MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TENNIS COACH

Ashland University

Marc Wurtzman recently accepted the Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach position at Ashland University. Prior to this, Coach Wurtzman was previously the head coach at Capital University and had extremely successful coaching stops at Ohio State University, University of Wisconsin, and Kenyon College.

Wurtzman is a 1998 graduate from The Ohio State University, where he was a four-year letterman for the Buckeyes. Upon graduation, he ranked inside the top-20 in career singles wins (68) and currently ranks 27th on that list. As a senior, Wurtzman was named team captain and was OSU's top-flight singles player.

Following his graduation, he spent one year playing professionally. His most notable win while on tour was against Fernando Gonzales, previously a top-10 player in the world.

Deborah Liebert Karl Tennis Complex

The Deborah Liebert Karl Tennis Complex is the outdoor home for Ashland University men's and women's tennis. The renovated and expanded complex was dedicated in a ceremony on Sept. 11, 2016. Karl is a 1972 alumna who gifted $250,000 to the renovation project.

Conard Field House

The newly-renovated Conard Field House is the new indoor home for Ashland University's wrestling, tennis and STUNT programs. Renovations began and ended in the summer of 2024, and all three programs have both practice and office spaces.
